Theatre Teaching Artist

Job Summary

As a part-time position, the Teaching Artist serves as the campus based Theatre Arts Instructor all school days for San Antonio Independent School District academy campuses.

Grade Levels (K-12) depending campus assignment.

The TA plays a critical role in the success of the program and takes on a variety of roles within the program including, teacher, facilitator, mentor, coach and director.

Teaching Artists should have demonstrated experience in theatre arts or artistic and educational disciplines and be passionate about teaching school-aged children in public school settings.

Our team of Teaching Artists are experienced in creating safe learning environments to foster prosocial development, modeling positive behavior, and supporting participant accomplishments, no matter how large or small.

The Teaching Artists interact with school administrators and teachers and are responsible for all daily program goals. Candidates must be committed to on-going professional development as an arts practitioner and educator and are encouraged to participate in Teatro Audaz community events.

Experience or interest in theatre and youth arts education is a plus.

This position works primarily at program sites. Must be willing to use personal equipment such as cell phone and laptop/tablet when working remotely.

Must be willing to undergo clearances/ background checks for district compliance.

All Teaching Artists report to the Education Coordinator and Managing Director

Qualifications

12 credit hours college in Theatre / Drama Courses. . Associates or higher preferred.

Experience

2+years of experience in Theatre programs and/or educational settings (Teaching Certifications and/or Fine Arts degrees are compensated on a sliding scale but not required)

Salary & Schedule

  • $22- $28 hourly. Commensurate with experience.

  • Planning and Professional Development Compensated

  • Non-exempt Part-Time position.

  • Position is expected to work 5-30 hours weekly dependent on assignment.

  • Candidate must be open to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES as described by SAISD

Instructional Planning and Delivery

  • Analyze performance data in order to provide targeted instruction based on student's individual needs

  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the district’s curriculum program, reflect accommodations for learning style differences, and show written evidence of preparation as required

  • Present subject matter according to the guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations

  • Work with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students as identified in Individual Education Plans (IEP)

Classroom Management and Organization

  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students

  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities
